PUSD Board Meeting 4/8/21
Here are the main takeaways from last week's PUSD Board of Education Meeting.
The Board Approved the following:
Expansion of High School on-campus learning to 4 days per week
Expansion of Middle School on-campus learning to 4 days per week effective April 19th
Painted Rock Elementary to pilot the 4 hours and 10 minutes, effective April 20, 2021 (It was asked if other schools were interested in expanded on April 20th as well and staff reported that only Painted Rock was fully on board and ready and they had volunteered to pilot.)
Expansion of elementary on-campus learning to 4 hours and 10 minutes, effective April 26th
These expanded schedules were all approved to remain through the end of the school year on June 18, 2021.
The Board also passed Resolution 50-2021 which affirmed the expanded in-person schedules for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year and states "effective at the beginning of the 2021-22 school year, the District will offer in-person instruction five days per week" and "the District will implement the bell schedules that had been adopted prior to the COVID-19 public health emergency."
They discussed promotion and graduation ceremonies as well. All high school graduation ceremonies will be on-campus, in-person, held in stadiums with safety protocols in place. Promotion ceremonies for 5th and 8th grade will be determined by individual school sites. Site leaders are to work with parents, students, and staff to plan for ceremonies that best meet the needs of the school. On-campus ceremonies are encouraged and as restrictions ease, it may become easier to plan for details.
The Board also gave direction for district staff to proceed with plans for summer learning programs. Summer learning will be free. It will be offered to students whose iReady scores and other academic/school factors demonstrate a need for summer learning. Final approval will be on the next agenda.
